Palliative Medicine Society
The Official page for UBMS’ Palliative Medicine Society.
Who are we?
We’re a group of healthcare students who are interested in learning more about Palliative Care. We aim to promote awareness and understanding of complex end-of-life issues amongst healthcare students at the University of Birmingham.
How do we do this?
We organise a range of events throughout the academic year which supplement the medical and nursing curriculae. These events encourage students to think independently about the subjects surrounding end-of-life in order to improve their handling of difficult subjects within their clinical practice.
Examples of events:
- We regularly host guest speakers including consultants, specialist nurses, chaplains and family members of those who have received palliative care.
- We run Skills Workshops to increase students’ confidence with communication skills and engaging in difficult conversations.
- Volunteering and fundraising opportunities to assist our local hospice, St. Mary’s, which is located just a half an hour walk from campus!
