Street Doctors

The Official page for UBMS’ StreetDoctors.

Britain is facing a knife crime epidemic. Almost £3 billion is spent annually in the NHS dealing with the consequences. Violence is the third leading cause of death of young people in Europe.

StreetDoctors is a national charity of 21 teams of healthcare students, all united by the common vision of eliminating youth violence. We teach at-risk youth basic life support to enable them to deliver first aid in emergencies and aim to educate them about the consequences of knife crime. To date, there are 19 known cases of young people using StreetDoctors teaching in emergencies.

The Birmingham team was established in 2014 to reach out in our community and equip vulnerable young people with key life-saving skills. We also fundraise to support and raise awareness of our cause. The team is one of the largest in the country and has continued to work throughout the pandemic in digital sessions run nationally.

Recruitment us at the start of the term so if you would like to be involved in one of the most dynamic teams and charities in MedSoc, keep an eye out in the bulletin and follow our Facebook page, Streetdoctors Birmingham.
